To make the treatment a pleasant and positive experience for your child, we use laughing gas. It has a relaxing and calming effect.
Laughing gas is the safest, oldest and best-researched sedative in dentistry. It is inhaled as a laughing gas-oxygen mixture through a nose mask and changes the sensory perception. This creates a calming feeling of security, the gag reflex is dampened and the sense of time is lost, allowing for a longer treatment period. Your child is responsive throughout the treatment. At the end of the treatment, he or she breathes in pure oxygen for a while, which causes the effect of the laughing gas to wear off immediately. A certain degree of cooperation is necessary for treatment with laughing gas, as your child should accept the nasal mask and be able to breathe the gas in and out through the nose voluntarily. Therefore, free nasal breathing is very important. Unfortunately, treatment with laughing gas is not possible in the case of colds and rhinitis. As a holder of the laughing gas certificate of competence of the Swiss Association for Paediatric Dentistry (SVK), Dr. Christina Michel is specially trained in the use of laughing gas and has many years of experience in the treatment with laughing gas.
