1
Check-up

Regular check-ups are important for healthy teeth. You are welcome to redeem vouchers for
school dental check-ups with us.

The first dental check-up is recommended when all 20 milk teeth are in place. This usually happens between the second and third birthday. The first appointment is for getting to know each other and building trust. If treatment is necessary, it will not take place until the next appointment. Ideally, dental check-ups should take place at least once a year.

2
Dental cleaning and prophylaxis

We support the child and the parents in maintaining optimal oral hygiene by providing advice and professional dental cleaning.

Good oral hygiene is a cornerstone for keeping teeth healthy. We explain and show the child and the parents how to brush the teeth optimally and discuss what should be paid attention to in the diet. If tartar or discolouration is present, we are also happy to carry out a professional dental cleaning.

3
Tooth-preserving treatment

We offer all conservative measures such as fillings, milk tooth crowns and milk tooth pulp treatments.

Milk teeth have an important function as placeholders for the permanent teeth and should
therefore be treated in case of caries. We offer tooth-coloured composite fillings and, in the case of larger defects, also deciduous tooth crowns. If the tooth pulp is affected, there is also the possibility of dental pulp treatment in some cases. For caries prevention, we can perform sealants on permanent molars.

4
Surgery

Minor surgical procedures such as tooth and lip band removal can be performed in the practice.

If a milk tooth can no longer be preserved because it is too badly damaged, removal becomes necessary. An extraction can also be useful for orthodontic reasons, e.g. lack of space. This is carried out at our clinic after a prior referral from the orthodontist.
Our range of treatments also includes gentle lip band removals. If more extensive procedures are necessary, we work with specialists we know and to whom we can refer your child.

5
Dental accidents

After a dental accident, an examination by a dentist should take place and the accident should be reported to the health insurance company.

You can find all the important information on what to do after a dental accident in the information brochure of the Health Department of the Canton of Zurich.

6
Emergencies

In case of pain or a swollen cheek, we are there for your child during practice opening hours.

In case of emergencies outside of telephone hours, please contact the dental emergency service of the Canton of Zurich: Emergency number 0800 33 66 55, you will be connected directly to the emergency dentist in your region.

7
Orthodontics

We accompany and monitor the change of teeth and the position of the teeth. If treatment
becomes necessary, we work together with trustable orthodontists.

If a milk molar is lost prematurely, depending on the situation it may be advisable to insert a space maintainer to secure the space for the following permanent tooth. In some cases, this can prevent a loss of space and the associated orthodontic treatment.

8
Laughing gas

To make the treatment a pleasant and positive experience for your child, we use laughing gas. It has a relaxing and calming effect.

Laughing gas is the safest, oldest and best-researched sedative in dentistry. It is inhaled as a laughing gas-oxygen mixture through a nose mask and changes the sensory perception. This creates a calming feeling of security, the gag reflex is dampened and the sense of time is lost, allowing for a longer treatment period. Your child is responsive throughout the treatment. At the end of the treatment, he or she breathes in pure oxygen for a while, which causes the effect of the laughing gas to wear off immediately. A certain degree of cooperation is necessary for treatment with laughing gas, as your child should accept the nasal mask and be able to breathe the gas in and out through the nose voluntarily. Therefore, free nasal breathing is very important. Unfortunately, treatment with laughing gas is not possible in the case of colds and rhinitis. As a holder of the laughing gas certificate of competence of the Swiss Association for Paediatric Dentistry (SVK), Dr. Christina Michel is specially trained in the use of laughing gas and has many years of experience in the treatment with laughing gas.

9
General anaesthesia

In the case of very young children or a great need for treatment, it may be necessary to treat them while they are asleep.

There are situations in which, despite a lot of patience and attention, treatment in the awake state is not possible. In such a case, it can be a great relief for the child and the parents if the entire treatment can be carried out in one appointment while the child is asleep. For this purpose, an anaesthesist team specialised in general anaesthesia for children and adolescents comes to our practice. In advance, you will be informed about the exact procedure of the general anaesthesia and the treatment by us and the anaesthetist. On the day of treatment, you as parents may stay with your child until he or she has fallen asleep. During the entire dental treatment, your child will be constantly monitored by the anaesthesist team. After the treatment, your child may sleep in the recovery room in your presence until he or she is well enough to go home.

Practice

Children are not small adults. Therefore, our treatment rooms, behavioural guidance and dental care are designed to meet the very special needs of children. Before a treatment, the procedure is explained to your child and the various appliances are shown. Through child-friendly language and gentle treatment methods, we want your child to feel comfortable and build trust.

About me

My aim is to make the visit to the dentist a positive experience for your child. This also includes replacing bad experiences with good ones. The best thing about my work as a paediatric dentist is when a child enjoys coming to me, whether for a check-up or for a treatment. As a mother of three sons, I know how demanding everyday life with children is. Therefore, I want to support your child and you as much as possible in keeping the teeth healthy.
